The Elma CMFF Chassis is an off-the-shelf 3U SOSA and CMOS
alligned configurable and deployable chassis solution designed for
ground vehicles and ground combat environments. It is intended
for Integrated Command, Control, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence,
Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) and designed for ground
vehicle applications. The chassis meets the size, weight, power,
and connector, and electrical interface requirements outlined by the
Standard A-Kit Vehicle Envelope (SAVE)
The Chassis is compliant to CMOSS and aligned with SOSA
Technical Standard. This mission-ready chassis comes standard with a
7 slot backplane ready to accept SOSA aligned plug-in cards (PICs)
and VITA 62 power supply and is an ideal way to rapidly integrate a
deployable platform. The chassis ships with the backplane, a
chassis manager, a hold-up module, and a VITA 62 plug-in power
supply. All are SOSA aligned. A key feature is the USB-based mainte
nance port aggregator for simplified servicing.
The all-aluminum chassis incorporates military-grade components like
MIL- STD-38999 connectors, line filter, on/off and reset switches,
LEDs, circuit breakers, etc. It is EMC shielded to MIL-STD-461E. The
cooling fan is a military-grade, high-altitude fan that can operate under
extremely harsh temperature conditions. Custom options such as
different backplanes, dual power supplies, and different cabling are
available from the factory upon request.

Backplanes
Elma Electronic UK have designed a small form factor, light weight ½
ATR chassis for use in harsh environments. The unit has been designed
to house 3 off 3U VPX (VITA 48.2) payload cards and 1 of 3U VPX
(VITA 62) PSU and protect them from the external environment. The
chassis incorporates a military grade high speed fan which provides air
though sealed cooling channels on the side of the chassis. Detailed
thermal modelling has been performed to ensure the chassis maintains
optimum thermal performance at all operating altitudes. The operation
of the fan can be monitored via a tachometer signal and optional speed
control is available. The backplane can support up to 4 slots on a 1”
pitch and up to 120 high speed differential pairs can be routed to the
front panel connectors for interconnection with external equipment.
The design can be easily customised to suit individual customer
requirements, and is always performed in conjunction with the overall
system design to ensure the best EMC and thermal performance of the
complete system.

Elma’s all-new CompacFrame platform accelerates development
and test of 3U plug-in-cards (PICs) designed according to the
VITA 48.8, Air Flow Through Cooling standard. The 3U card
cage in the platform is tilted upwards by 5° for easier card access.
The CompacFrame accepts multiple1- slot VPX power & ground
backplanes in 1”, 1.2” or 1.5” pitch or the AFT specific 5 slot
backplane (1SVX306APP-1X31, 1.5” pitch).

ATR-3600S is an off-the-shelf half-ATR specifically designed for
deployable applications requiring alignment with the SOSA
Technical Standard. This six-slot chassis is mission-ready to
accept SOSA aligned plug-in cards (PICs) and VITA 62 power
supply and is an ideal way to rapidly integrate a deployable
platform leveraging the power of SOSA. This short half ATR
ships configured with a 6-slot OpenVPX™ backplane, chassis
manager, ethernet switch, and power supply. All are SOSA
aligned. A key feature is the USB-based maintenance port
aggregator for simplified servicing.
The all-aluminum ATR incorporates military-grade components
like MIL- STD-38999 connectors, line filter, on/off and reset

to keep the mission on course. From the experts in packaging for extreme
environments comes the VITA 48.4 LFT field-deployable ATR platform.
Elma Electronic’s newest rugged OpenVPX ATR platform is designed to accommodate
boards requiring liquid flow-through (LFT) cooling per the VITA 48.4 standard.
VITA 48.4 establishes the mechanical design interface, outline and mounting
requirements for 6U OpenVPX liquid-flow-through cooled plug-in modules within
associated sub-racks. While the connector layout remains common with VITA 46,
VITA 48.4 standard modules are cooled by liquid flowing through an integral
heatsink. Circuit boards and electronic components are cooled more effectively
as compared to other more traditional cooling methods such as air or conduction
cooling alone. Quick disconnect coupling assemblies allow fluidic coupling to the
chassis manifold.
Backplane
Designed for data rates up to 10 Gbps, the backplane is
designed to handle 300 Watts per slot. It features eight 6U slots
on a 1.2” pitch. Clockable guide pins are included at each slot
to allow for easier keying (angle rotation) without having to deal
with the removal of the backplane from chassis. From left to right:

with portability and easy access for embedded system design efforts.
It is ideal for activities such as board design, application development, data flow
